Now that an account is set up, it's time to start working on the modem settings.

Connection Speed
Choose from a list of connection speeds supported by your serial port. Most modems can benefit from choosing a slightly higher connection speed.

It can be helpful to turn up the volume when first setting up a modem to listen for problems.

The Query Modem button will have kppp ask your modem to identify itself.

If you receive an error message such as seen in the graphic, the correct modem port may not be chosen. The next page shows how to do some basic troubleshooting.
